After a profoundly Scottish start to our day of bangers, beans, and Weetabix, we toured Scone Palace taking in a bit of the 900 year history of the Scottish nobility. We followed that with exploration of the gardens, the peacocks, the star maze, and even a zip line (for those of appropriate age!). Several of us also enjoyed a properly pronounced scone (skəʊn) with tea at Scone (skoon) Palace!
In Perth, the birthplace of our Presbyterian heritage, we visited St. John’s Kirk where we listened to a brief history of our Reformation from a Scottish friend (who actually hosted 2 of our boys from the 2012 Tour)! While most enjoyed a jaunt through the shops of Perth, a few interested, energetic, and intrepid choir members scaled the narrow, winding, and steep stairs up the turret to the bell tower and were rewarded with a panoramic view of the quaint city.
Following an afternoon rehearsal that manifested the reality of jetlag, the Chapel Choir rose to the occasion and delivered a spectacular concert to a large audience at Kinnoull Parish Church. Our friends at Kinnoull had hosted us 4 years ago and were thrilled to have us for a return performance and we enjoyed chatting with them tonight at a post-concert reception.
Our long day, along with recovering jetlag, and a 5 am wakeup call for tomorrow’s trip to Inverness made for a prompt and welcome bed check call for all!
